2021 The year of the WebRTC

Telecommuting, videoconferences, teleassistance, remote services of all kinds. All these words should already be in the organization manual of any company and, especially, in the minds of technology and infrastructure managers.

After an unprecedented year in which teleworking has accelerated, It is 2021 arrives with little foresight that things change (at least, Regarding the functional organization of companies). So, remote services must be consolidated and promoted to guarantee the normal operation of companies.

WebRTC it is a free and open source project, standardized by the consortium W3C and supported by all major web browsers. In summary, webRTC Provides real-time communication APIs and without the need to download plugins or native applications. Its functionalities are immense and, some, yet to discover.

We can say that during this year many new projects will be developed and implemented webRTC with internal and external audiovisual communication functions. The infrastructures allow, workers are already used to this type of telecommuting, the only thing missing is the effective development of projects such as the following:

  • web voice switchboard
  • mixed event streaming
  • telemedicine
  • most complete webinars
  • teleassistance
  • live event tracking
  • integration with IoT platforms
  • integration with Artificial Intelligence

WebRTC enables live video and voice communications, great value and interactive with any browser and application, which drives new experiences of connection between people.

the closes 26 of January of 2021, the consortium World Wide Web (W3C) and the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) they announced that Web Real-Time Communications (WebRTC) is already an official standard.

«It is gratifying to see our technologies playing a key role in enabling such critical digital infrastructure. Combining the universal reach of the Web with the richness of live audio & video conversations has reshaped how the world communicates.»

Dr Jeff Jaffe, W3C CEO.

“Voice and video over IP revolutionized the way that people communicate around the world. Integrating these technologies into the Web platform has dramatically expanded their reach» ”.

Alissa Cooper, IETF Chair.
Live audio and video communication systems on any website or any application

The frame WebRTC provides the basic components from which we can add the video call to a wide variety of applications, including education, Health, idleness, video game, professional collaboration and telecommuting.

One of the great advantages of this standardization is the unique opportunity to expand the use of web applications, no need for plugins or external executables, and in all major web browsers.

The next developments of the standard will go along the following lines:

  • End-to-end encryption in server-mediated video conferences
  • Live processing of audio and video feeds, including through machine learning
  • internet of things (for instance, an IoT sensor maintains a long-term connection and seeks to minimize power consumption)
